Does it Hold up?

Imagine a movie about racism and police profiling.. made in the 60s... Yea it holds up and is relevant.

Overall Rating:

Damn that was a good movie..

Weird Comedy or Something New:

Showing as much as you possibly could in those days of a women.. was kinda funny.

Not too much else thought. Just a well made movie.. I still feel it would have been hard to make a direct jump from this movie to the TV show, but I guess the show was more about a big city cop coming to a small southern town.

Random Thoughts:

Rashida's dad did the music!!! And Ray with a killer opening song.

You can tell when they haven't remaster a film from this decade, just looks a little grainy and rough around the edges.

Virgil Tibbs is a fantastic character name.

The POV like shots were something interesting to try, but don't quite hold up. Tibbs going over the man's car is better than the chase ones.

My First Time:

Really glad I went with this instead of something else. It was made almost 53 years ago and the themes are still relevant. I think that is a sad indictment on our culture, but it's still a great movie. I really enjoyed the chief as he battled with his clear racism, but also his logical and pragmatic nature, he knew Tibbs was right and the best way to solve the crime, but he had to deal with being shown up by a black man. He lashes out and then has to slowly come around. It's not the best way, but he does show considerable growth through the movie. Tibbs is the same way, in that he doesn't want to help this back water country people, but his nature or desire to unravel this mystery compels him to stay there and risk his life.

Again, yet another reason why I am so glad I did this challenge and found a way to watch movies I would never really think about. NEXT YEAR IS GONNA BE EVEN BETTER!!!
